Microsoft to cut up to 15,000 jobs?

With a down US economy and major firms doing major cutbacks, rumors have been circulating around that Microsoft will be planning big layoffs this January.

How big? Around 17% of its global workforce of 90,000 people. That's around 15,000 employees.

If this is true, this will be the first official layoff in Microsoft history. Although this rumor has not been confirmed by credible sources, some people inside Microsoft say they already have hiring freezes in place.
